Mid-Autumn Festival

Mid-Autumn Festival is the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. In Chinese myths, on that day a woman called Chang’e flew to the moon and stayed there with her pet rabbit.

It is full moon on that day, and Chinese people usually have a family reunion. We eat moon cakes and play with lanterns. The filling of the moon cakes is lotus seed paste, sweet bean paste, taro paste, etc. Traditional lanterns have candles inside, which make them dangerous. Nowadays candles are often replaced by electric lights.

My family usually stay at home and do nothing special. But this year daddy and I went to Tuen Mun Park with our friends Peter, Felix and their parents. We played with our lanterns and fireworks. And we ate mini moon cakes. The filling of the moon cakes is creamy custard, which is my favorite flavor. The moon cakes come in a music box with the music “A Whole New World”. We played with the music box every morning for one week after the Festival.

I hope our family will celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival in a more traditional way. I hope we could have a family reunion next year.
